AT&T Mobility to Issue Consumer Refunds for Improper Charges

October 9, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) released the following statement today regarding AT&T Mobility's recent $105 million settlement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The settlement will require AT&T's wireless business to pay penalties and issue refunds to consumers whose mobile accounts were improperly charged for third-party services.

"This settlement is an important win for consumers across the country who have been fleeced by these unscrupulous and unlawful billing practices," said Congressman Sarbanes. "As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and its Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing and Trade, I am committed to working with FTC to protect consumers from abusive practices and fraud."

Residents of Maryland's Third Congressional District can find more information about the settlement at http://www.ftc.gov/enforcement/cases-proceedings/refunds/att-mobility-llc.
