?️ Mark Your Calendars: Student Loan Debt Relief

October 28, 2022
The Sarbanes Standard

Dear Friend,

Student loan debt is an ongoing crisis. I’ve long fought to strengthen federal aid programs, support student loan repayment programs and boost career and technical education. Today, I want to make sure you know about two important deadlines that may help address your student loan debt.

?October 31, 2022: Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Limited Waiver

  • In 2007, I authored the legislation which created the PSLF program to ease student loan debt for our teachers, nurses, servicemembers and other public service workers. Unfortunately, the administration of the program has fallen short at times, and I have been pushing for specific reforms to address implementation problems and bottlenecks in the program.
  • The Biden Administration recently made improvements to help address some of those concerns and allow more payments to qualify for forgiveness. Under the limited waiver, borrowers can now get credit for past payments even if those payments were not made on time or in the full amount due or were not on the right repayment plan. In those cases, the limited waiver still allows borrowers to receive credit that was not previously available under PSLF. Click here to apply.

?December 31, 2023: Student Loan Debt Relief

  • The Biden Administration recently announced student loan debt relief to ease Americans’ burden in achieving their education goals.
  • Eligible borrowers may receive up to $10,000 in relief or $20,000 if they’re Pell Grant recipients. The application takes only 5 minutes to complete, and you don’t need to log in to get started. Click here to apply.

Along with legislation to lower health care and energy costs, these changes will help families facing rising prices. I will continue working to honor our promises to America’s public servants and to deliver relief for all Marylanders.

Sincerely,
