Coronavirus Update: December 31, 2021
As the Omicron variant spreads, Maryland is experiencing record levels of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. This is a very concerning trend, and I would like to provide the latest guidance on how to protect yourself, your family and our community through this surge:
- Practice the 3 W's. Wear your mask, watch your distance and wash your hands.
- Get the vaccine and booster shot. Getting the vaccine and booster can protect against severe illness, hospitalization and death due to COVID-19. All Marylanders 5 and older are eligible for vaccination. Learn more about vaccine clinics in your area and whether you're eligible for a COVID-19 booster shot.
- Get tested. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19, get tested. Learn more about testing sites and the availability of rapid at-home tests in your area. Right now, it can be hard to find tests and that's frustrating but I encourage you to persevere so that you have the benefit of that information.
- If you test positive, stay home. If you test positive for COVID-19 - even if you are not experiencing symptoms - isolate. If you may have been exposed to COVID-19 and may or may not have contracted the virus, quarantine to avoid spreading to your neighbors. Learn more about what to do.
Each and every one of us has a part to play in stopping the spread. I am confident that we can get to the other side of this pandemic if we continue to work together.
