Members of Maryland's congressional delegation met Wednesday evening with the chair and CEO of General Motors to ask about the automaker's decision to close their White Marsh transmission plant.... Sens. Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen, and Reps. Steny Hoyer, Elijah Cummings, Dutch Ruppersberger and John Sarbanes said in a joint statement they expressed their dismay to CEO Mary Barra in a meeting on Capitol Hill.... "We urged her to reconsider the company’s decision, as the plant is large, modern and situated in a community that wants to keep up its hard work," the Democrats said. "The company’s stated ‘realignment’ to focus on light-duty trucks, sport utility vehicles (SUVs), and self-driving and electric vehicles makes the White Marsh decision incomprehensible because the plant makes light-duty truck transmissions and electric motors."
