Democracy Reform Task Force Releases Third Report Compiling Trump Administration Actions to Flood the Swamp in Washington

November 16, 2017

Extensive Audit Illustrates that 300 Days into Office, President Trump Continues to Break His Promise to “Drain the Swamp”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Democracy Reform Task Force Chair Rep. John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today led House Democrats in releasing a new report, "300 Ways in 300 Days: How the Trump Administration Keeps Flooding the Swamp in Washington." The report builds on previous reports unveiled in April and in August by the Democracy Reform Task Force.

The new report shows 300 ways that the Trump Administration has widely and unabashedly disregarded ethics laws and norms – all just 300 days into President Trump's first term.

"The self-enriching, self-promoting Presidency of Donald Trump is causing real harm for ordinary Americans," said Democracy Reform Task Force Chair Rep. Sarbanes. "Instead of looking out for the needs and interests of everyday people, the Trump Administration and its Republican allies in Congress continue to do the bidding of rich donors and Washington insiders. The American people deserve better. They deserve a government that works for them, not a government that serves wealthy and well-connected special interests."

The new report highlights the many ways that the Trump Administration has poisoned the well of American democracy by eschewing accountability, honesty and ethics. This includes:

  • Made a Mockery of Ethics Law and Regulation
  • Promoted a Culture of Secrecy in the Executive Branch
  • Stacked His Cabinet with Big Money Campaign Donors
  • Installed a Special Interest Revolving Door into the Trump White House
  • Put Big Money Ahead of the Public Interest
  • Turned the Presidency into a Profit-Making Enterprise
  • Pursued Public Policy for His Personal Benefit
  • Raided the Treasury to Pay for Vacation & Private Business Promotion
