On Earth Day, Sarbanes Salutes Citizen Efforts to Safeguard the Environment and Protect the Chesapeake Bay

Congressman Sarbanes Also Announced His Legislative Scorecard Ratings from Leading Environmental Advocacy Organizations

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today marked the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day by saluting citizen-led efforts to combat climate change, safeguard the environment and protect the Chesapeake Bay for future generations of Marylanders.

"I want to salute the leadership of local organizations and citizens in Maryland and across the country who step up every single day to protect our environment. Your unwavering commitment is a deep source of pride and inspiration," said Congressman Sarbanes, co-chair of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed Task Force, a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and a long-time champion of robust climate action, environmental education and environmental stewardship.

Sarbanes continued: "Following your lead, I will continue to fight for federal action that reins in special-interest polluters, protects the Chesapeake Bay, combats climate change and preserves our air, water, wildlife and public lands."

Congressman Sarbanes also announced his legislative scorecard ratings from leading environmental advocacy organizations, including the Defenders of Wildlife (100 percent rating) and the League of Conservation Voters (97 percent rating).
