December 2, 2014

Funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities Will Provide Fellowships to Professors and Independent Scholars

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today announced that Loyola University Maryland and St. John's College will receive grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to support fellowships for professors and independent scholars.

Loyola University Maryland will receive more than $50,000 for "Modernist Women's Poetry and the Problem of Sentimentality," a project directed by Melissa Girard, assistant professor in the university's Department of English.

St. John's College will receive nearly $38,000 for "Love, Friendship and Family in Ancient Philosophy," a project led by Paul Ludwig, a tutor at St. John's College.

"The NEH's grant program is a valuable asset for educators, authors and researchers aiming to advance our understanding of the humanities among academia and the general public," said Congressman Sarbanes. "It should come as no surprise that Loyola University Maryland and St. John's College – some of our nation's most well-respected academic institutions – received this competitive award."
