Sarbanes Announces More Than $6 Million in Federal Grants for Baltimore City Fire Department

August 27, 2018

Funding Will Help Baltimore City Hire, Train and Retain Firefighters

TOWSON, Md. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today announced that the Baltimore City Fire Department will receive more than $6 million in grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to help hire, train and retain city firefighters.

"Securing these federal resources is a tremendous win for our city," said Congressman Sarbanes. "By providing Baltimore's first responders with the resources they need, and by filling the department's ranks with additional well-trained and highly qualified firefighters, we can improve our city's emergency response capabilities and make our communities safer."

The grant funding comes from FEMA's Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program. For more information about the SAFER program, visit: https://www.fema.gov/welcome-assistance-firefighters-grant-program.
