WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Sarbanes (D-Md.) applauded 11 employers awarded the U.S. Department of Labor’s HIRE Vets Medallion Award in Maryland’s Third Congressional District.

The HIRE Vets Medallion Award recognizes employers for their efforts to support veterans in meaningful, sustaining careers. In selecting recipients, the U.S. Department of Labor assesses an employer’s size, programs aimed at recruiting and retaining veterans and career development resources to help veterans reach their highest potential, such as dedicated human resources and tuition assistance programs.

“Veterans’ strong commitment to their communities extends beyond their time in the service,” said Congressman Sarbanes. “I applaud these employers for leading by example in recognizing veterans’ uniquely valuable skills and helping them to succeed in fulfilling, long-term careers. Maryland is fortunate to benefit from their efforts.

“As we honor their service during this Veterans Day week, let us recommit to ensuring veterans and their families have the resources and opportunities to lead full lives after their time in uniform,” Congressman Sarbanes continued.

The program was created under the bipartisan Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans (HIRE Vets) Act in 2017.
