WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today applauded a U.S. Department of Transportation grant of $5.7 million for the construction of a new taxiway at BWI Airport.

“Each year, millions of passengers pass through BWI as they travel around the country, making the airport one of Maryland’s most important economic engines,” said Congressman Sarbanes. “This grant will make critical upgrades to BWI’s infrastructure that will increase capacity while keeping travelers safe. I will continue working hard to support federal investments that create jobs and grow our economy.”

The grant has been awarded to the Maryland Department of Transportation and the Maryland Aviation Administration to fund the first phase of relocating one of BWI’s taxiways to a safer location. The new construction will be done in accordance with all Federal Aviation Administration safety and design standards.
