August 21, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today joined the Baltimore Congressional Delegation in announcing $843,988 in federal funding to improve the City of Baltimore's ability to respond to catastrophic events, including pandemics, and keep Baltimore residents safe.

Funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) Fiscal Year 2020 Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Grant Program. It will provide planning, training and organizational resources to expand emergency capabilities across the Baltimore region.

"This new federal funding will help strengthen Baltimore's emergency preparedness and response efforts," the lawmakers said. "With robust training and resources, city officials can quickly and effectively manage future crises by providing emergency health care services, food supplies, water and shelter. We remain committed to securing federal support that builds resiliency in our communities and keeps Marylanders safe."

FEMA's Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Grant Program focuses on five mission areas, including prevention, protection, mitigation, response and recovery. See here for more information.
