Sarbanes, Maryland Congressional Delegation Announce More Than $90 Million in Emergency Funding to Boost Maryland’s COVID-19 Response

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today joined the Maryland Congressional Delegation in announcing more than $90 million in emergency federal funding to support the state's ongoing COVID-19 pandemic response.

"This critical federal funding will reimburse Maryland for a wide array of COVID-19 response and mitigation efforts," the lawmakers said. "It will also assist our local health departments and emergency response personnel, who have worked tirelessly and selflessly to save lives and keep our communities safe. We will keep working to secure additional funding for Maryland as we continue to confront the COVID-19 pandemic."

Funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), authorized under Section 403 of the Robert T. Stafford Act. It includes:

• $82,199,504 for the Maryland Department of Health to purchase personal protective equipment – including masks, ventilators, gloves, gowns and disinfectant products.
  
• $4,333,900 for the Grocery Box Feeding Program to distribute emergency meals to individuals who test positive for COVID-19 in the city of Baltimore.
  
• $2,786,205 for the Produce Box Feeding Program to deliver emergency food and ice across 71 sites in Baltimore.
  
• $1,627,520 for the Maryland Emergency Management Agency to maintain emergency protective measures and distribute COVID-19 health information to Marylanders.
  

The lawmakers previously announced more than $560 million in emergency federal funding from FEMA to help support the Maryland's COVID-19 response and vaccine rollout.
