Sarbanes, Maryland Congressional Delegation Announce Nearly $22.9 Million to Upgrade State Airports

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today joined the Maryland Congressional Delegation in announcing $22,857,386 in federal funding to modernize and renovate airports across Maryland.

"Maryland's airports are essential economic drivers in our region," the lawmakers said. "This new federal funding will upgrade airport facilities and runways, create jobs and ensure that day-to-day aviation operations continue to run safely and effectively as business and personal air travel increases. We remain committed to securing strong federal investments in projects that enhance transportation infrastructure across our state."

Funding comes from the U.S. Department of Transportation through the Airport Improvement Program for Fiscal Year 2021, along with an added boost from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, the Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act and the American Rescue Plan. It includes:

  • Greater Cumberland Regional – $5,704,444
  • Frederick Municipal Airport – $4,820,151
  • Ocean City Municipal – $4,700,000
  • Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) Thurgood Marshall Airport – $4,057,116
  • Tipton Airport – $2,215,353
  • Bay Bridge Airport – $515,000
  • Montgomery County Airpark – $400,000
  • Hagerstown Regional-Richard A. Henson Field – $300,000
  • Easton/Newnam Field Airport – $91,162
  • Crisfield-Somerset County – $39,144
  • Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional – $15,016

The lawmakers previously announced more than $23.6 million in federal COVID-19 economic relief for airports across the state.
