Sarbanes, Maryland Congressional Delegation Deliver Full Federal Funding for Maryland National Guard During COVID-19 Deployment

March 29, 2020

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) and the Maryland Congressional Delegation announced that the federal government will cover the full cost of deploying the Maryland National Guard as it conducts vital public health and safety efforts across the state to fight the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Congressional Delegation has been united in providing critical federal resources for Maryland throughout this public health crisis. On Thursday, the Congressional Delegation urged President Donald Trump to fully fund the Maryland National Guard as it supports the state's efforts to combat the coronavirus.

"The Maryland National Guard forms a crucial part of the State's emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic," the lawmakers wrote. "The National Guard will perform humanitarian missions across the state, such as helping mobile screening facilities, distributing food and medical supplies, ensuring resilience of supply lines, disinfecting public spaces and supporting public safety when required. It is appropriate that FEMA fully reimburse DOD for these and related costs."
