Sarbanes Speaks Out Against GOP Special-Interest Hydropower Bill [Video]
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today spoke out against the so-called Hydropower Policy Modernization Act (H.R. 3043), a House Republican bill that could weaken the ability of states, like Maryland, to protect water quality and keep the Chesapeake Bay healthy.
“Under the Clean Water Act, states have the right to protect their water by setting water-quality conditions on hydropower licenses.” said Congressman Sarbanes. “This bill would constrain that authority…. That is why even Republicans in our state – the Secretaries of the Environment and Natural Resources – sent a letter urging Congress to strike the provisions in this bill that would limit Maryland’s ability to set water-quality conditions.”
