Sarbanes Statement on Chemical Weapons Attack in Syria

August 30, 2013
TOWSON – U.S. Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today released the following statement on the chemical weapons attack in Syria:

"Speaker Boehner should reconvene the House of Representatives as soon as possible so that Members of Congress can be fully briefed about the recent chemical weapons attack on civilian populations in Syria and brought into the discussion about an appropriate response. The disturbing reports of death and suffering resulting from the attack are truly shocking and there must be severe consequences for those who would engage in such atrocities. Congress has a Constitutional duty to consider the United States' role in responding to these events and I believe that we must fulfill that duty in a timely manner."
