Sarbanes Statement on Escalating Violence Between Israelis and Palestinians

WASHINGTON - U.S. Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today released the following statement on the escalating violence between Israelis and Palestinians:
"I join my colleagues in reaffirming support for Israel’s right to self-defense and calling upon Hamas to immediately cease all rocket and other attacks against Israel. Those attacks – which increasingly pose a direct threat to Israel’s major population centers – are recklessly destructive of efforts to bring about a peaceful, two-state solution to the ongoing conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. Particularly in the wake of the senseless murders of four innocent youth from both communities, it is my fervent hope that people of good will on both sides of the conflict will find a way to defuse the current crisis and restart meaningful negotiations as soon as possible."
