Sarbanes Statement on President Obama’s Supreme Court Appointment

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) issued the following statement today after President Obama nominated federal appeals court judge Merrick Garland to the U.S. Supreme Court:

“Judge Garland is an accomplished and highly regarded legal practitioner who has spent much of his career dedicated to public service. With so many important issues before the court this year and beyond – issues like tackling climate change and reducing the corrosive influence of big money in politics – I commend President Obama for fulfilling his constitutional responsibility to appoint a new Supreme Court Justice. It’s my sincere hope that the Senate will fulfill its duty to give Judge Garland a fair confirmation hearing and a timely vote.”
