Sarbanes Statement on President Trump’s Recent Actions to Destabilize the Health Insurance Market

October 13, 2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) issued the below statement today in response to President Donald Trump's decision to end cost-sharing reduction payments that help lower health care costs for millions of Americans:

"President Trump's reckless and spiteful actions to undermine the Affordable Care Act will harm hardworking families and plunge the health insurance market into a chaotic tailspin. The President's act of sabotage will raise health insurance premiums and increase health care costs for millions of Americans. It will also cause substantial uncertainty in the health insurance marketplace. By now, it's clear that the President will go to any length to undermine the Affordable Care Act, regardless of the damage it inflicts on everyday Americans. In Congress, I will work tirelessly to champion affordable, accessible and high-quality health coverage for all Americans, and I will continue to fight back against President Trump's senseless attacks on the American health care system."
