WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) issued the following statement today after a gunman attacked Members of Congress at baseball practice this morning in Alexandria, Va.

“My thoughts go out to my colleague, Congressman Steve Scalise, and his family, and to the other victims of the senseless shooting at the Congressional baseball practice. By all accounts, the Capitol Police on site, who were also among the wounded, prevented much greater bloodshed and I’d like to praise them for their bravery and service.”
