WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman John Sarbanes and Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin(all D-Md.) announced $450,000 in federal funding for the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis. These funds from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will help support Choice Neighborhoods Planning Grants that assist communities in developing comprehensive neighborhood revitalization plans focused on redeveloping a severely distressed public housing or HUD-assisted housing project, enhancing the quality of life for the families that live there, and improving amenities in the neighborhood. The lawmakers have continually pushedfor federal funding to support community development at HUD and the Choice Neighborhoods program.

"This federal funding is a unique opportunity to lift up neighborhoods in Annapolis, improving housing and enhancing the overall experience for residents. I'm very pleased that, working together with the City of Annapolis, the Housing Authority of the City of Annapolis can target these funds to build a more vibrant, equitable community," said Congressman Sarbanes.

"Every family deserves access to safe, affordable housing. As communities struggle to keep up with the demand for affordable housing, we must immediately invest in redeveloping and revitalizing housing options. These federal funds for Annapolis will do just that," said Senator Van Hollen, a member of the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. "We will continue working to bring community-oriented housing solutions, like the Choice Neighborhood Planning grants, to our state so we can lower costs for families and help grow opportunities for Marylanders."

"Creating stable, safe neighborhoods transforms communities and the surrounding areas. This federal investment in Annapolis will make a positive difference for families," said Senator Cardin. "Team Maryland will continue to use every available resource to ensure all Marylanders have safe and affordable place to call home and an opportunity to build equity."
