Sarbanes Votes to Impeach President Trump Again

January 13, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) today released the following statement after voting for H.Res. 24, to impeach President Trump for high crimes and misdemeanors:

"After the President refused to resign and after Vice President Pence failed to invoke the 25th Amendment, Congress had no choice but to proceed with articles of impeachment to remove Donald Trump from office.

"Today, I joined my colleagues in a bipartisan vote to impeach President Trump for inciting a deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol, undermining our democratic process, threatening the safety and well-being of the American people and failing to uphold his constitutional duties.

"Every moment that Donald Trump remains in office, he presents a grave danger to our country. He must be removed from office – immediately."

Congressman Sarbanes also delivered remarks on the House floor, before voting to impeach President Trump.

See below for a video and a transcript of the Congressman's remarks.

"Madam Speaker, this beautiful Capitol Dome is a symbol of freedom and democracy – not just for Americans, but for people the world over.

"The action we take today, this impeachment, is a declaration to the world, that when there is an attack on our democracy – whether it comes from without or whether, tragically, in this instance, it comes from within – we will respond to that threat and attack, and we will do what's necessary to strengthen our democracy."
