Sarbanes Votes for Transformative Investment in American Families

November 19, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman John Sarbanes (D-Md.) issued the following statement after House passage of the Build Back Better Act (H.R. 5376), legislation that delivers historic investments to meet the needs of American families and build a growing, prosperous economy:

"Today, the American people received a robust response to their decades-long calls for change. Too many families have struggled, forced to make sacrifices and impossible decisions to keep their families afloat, as government has failed to act.

"Marylanders will see the benefits of the Build Back Better Act throughout their lives. While cutting taxes for hardworking families, this legislation will deliver historic investments in child care and early education, make education beyond high school more accessible, expand health care coverage, lower prescription drug costs, create good-paying jobs, protect communities against environmental pollution – especially our most vulnerable – and support older and disabled Americans with long-term care needs.

"I voted in favor of these investments today, which will pay back in spades for our country."
