Congressional Internships

An internship in a Congressional office can be a rewarding opportunity to learn directly about our nation’s legislative process. Our office seeks hard-working and dedicated college students to work as full-time and part-time interns throughout the year in Congressman Sarbanes’ Towson and Washington, D.C. offices.

Intern Guidelines

Congressman John Sarbanes office is seeking interns to work with Towson and Washington, D.C. staff performing constituent outreach, communications activities and legislative work.

Serving as an intern in a Congressional office is an exciting opportunity. You will be provided with firsthand experiences and will gain invaluable insight into the legislative process, the importance of casework and the value of constituent and community outreach.

You will also complete a variety of tasks, including:

  • Assisting all staff;
  • Answering phones;
  • Distributing mail;
  • Attending staff meetings;
  • Entering data into Intertrac, our constituent management system;
  • Copying, faxing and filing;
  • Entering information and tracking cases in IQ for staff members;
  • Assisting with press duties;
  • Guiding U.S. Capitol tours;
  • Attending events outside of the office with a staff member;
  • Representing the office at an outreach venue; and
  • Working on long-term projects.

You may have the opportunity to observe House floor debate and votes, attend committee hearings and policy briefings, and tour the U.S. Capitol and other Washington, D.C. sites.
